One of the Easiest Health Swaps You Can Make: Cleaning Up Your Home Environment

One of the Easiest Health Swaps You Can Make: Cleaning Up Your Home Environment

There was a time when I didn’t think twice about the products I was using in my home.
If it smelled clean… it must be clean, right?
But that perspective shifted when I became pregnant with my daughter.
I started paying closer attention to what I was bringing into my home — what I was cleaning with, what I was breathing in, what I was surrounding my family with every day.
And what I found was eye-opening.
So many of the products sitting in my cabinets contained ingredients I couldn’t pronounce… and didn’t fully understand.
I questioned why I was cleaning my home with products that had a poison label on them and I also wondered why would I use products that required me to wear gloves.
That’s when I made the decision:
👉 I wanted my home to be a safer, more supportive place for my family
And I haven’t looked back since.

🌸 Why This Matters More Than You Think

We often think about what we put in our bodies…
But what about what we’re exposed to every single day in our homes?
The air we breathe.
The products we touch.
The surfaces we clean.
All of it matters.
And here’s something that might surprise you:
👉 The air inside our homes can often be more polluted than the air outside
Especially when we’re using conventional cleaning and fragrance products.

📊 A Few Things to Be Aware Of

Without going into overwhelm, here are a few important things to keep in mind:
• Many household products contain chemicals that can irritate the lungs, skin, and eyes
• Some ingredients can contribute to headaches, fatigue, or respiratory issues
• Fragrance alone can be made up of dozens (sometimes hundreds) of undisclosed chemicals
• Repeated, daily exposure creates a compounding effect over time
And yes — some of these ingredients may also act as endocrine disruptors, which can interfere with hormone balance.

🌿 Where These Products Are Hiding

Take a look around your home. You might find them in:
• air fresheners
• candles
• laundry detergent
• dryer sheets
• all-purpose cleaners
• disinfecting sprays
• hand soaps
Again — this isn’t about fear.
It’s about awareness.

💛 The Good News (This Is One of the EASIEST Swaps)

Here’s the part I love to share:
👉 This is one of the easiest areas to start making changes
You don’t need to overhaul your entire life.
You can start small.
And those small changes can make a big difference over time.

✨ Simple Swaps to Get You Started

If you’re not sure where to begin, start here:
• Swap dryer sheets → wool dryer balls
(Add a few drops of essential oils for a light, natural scent)
• Replace air fresheners → essential oil diffuser
(I like to say I “diffuse the situation” 😊)
• Choose simpler cleaning products → look for fewer, more recognizable ingredients

🌿 Simple DIY Recipes

If you enjoy a more hands-on approach, here are a few easy options:

🧂 Carpet Deodorizer

• 1 cup baking soda
• 10–15 drops essential oil
Mix and sprinkle on carpet. Let sit, then vacuum.

🧼 Simple Hand Soap

• 1/2 cup castile soap
• water to fill dispenser
• 10–15 drops essential oil
Shake gently before use.

🌸 Freshen Your Space

• Add essential oils to a diffuser
• Choose oils that support your mood and energy
You can even make a room spray by using a little witch hazel, essential oils, and water.
Simple. Effective. Supportive.

🌿 Want the Easy Button?

If DIY isn’t your thing…
There are great ready-made options too.
I personally love the Thieves line from Young Living for cleaning products.
They’re designed to be effective while using more mindful ingredients — and they make it simple to swap out multiple products at once.
👉 You can check out the Thieves Cleaning Kit Here!

🌙 Why This Matters Long-Term

This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about reducing your overall exposure over time.
Because these products don’t just affect you once…
👉 they add up
And the earlier you start making changes…
The more you support your long-term health.
As I often say:
👉 It’s better to make the switch now than wait until your body tells you that you have to.

💛 Final Thoughts

You don’t need to change everything overnight.
Start with one product.
One swap.
One small step.
Because creating a healthier home…
Is really about creating a more supportive and safer environment for you and your family.

Meet Coach Jaime

Let me introduce myself!
My name is Jaime. I am a Christian wife and mom to 2 humans and 2 furry children. After being a middle school teacher for 17 years, I switched directions to go into the field of health and wellness. I am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, I also have certifications in aromatherapy and menopause coaching. Beyond my passion for health and wellness, you can catch me walking, baking, scrapbooking or sewing.

In the midst of my teaching career, I started to experience a lot of health concerns. My hormones were tanking and I felt terrible. I jumped from doctor to doctor with each one prescribing a new medication that didn't seem to help. I had a full hysterectomy at the age of 39 which threw me into menopause. With little help or guidance from doctors, I started doing my own research which lead to me becoming a health coach. (I guess "rabbit holes" can have benefits!!) I am proud to say that I am stronger and healthier than I have ever been!
My health journey hasn't been easy, but it has been a learning experience that I am grateful for!

I don't want women to have to go through their perimenopause/menopause journey alone and confused, like I did. I don't want women to feel like they have no options. I don't want women to learn the hard way the things that really make a difference for their health. I want women to have the knowledge, support, tools and confidence to take control of their health.

If you are in perimenopause or post menopausal, I want to support, encourage, and empower you during this time. This is not a time for suffering, rather it is a time for powerful change!!
