The Story You're Telling Yourself About Menopause Matters More Than You Think
🌿 The Story You're Telling Yourself About Menopause Matters More Than You Think
"Well...this is fun." 😂
Have you ever caught yourself saying something like as you navigate perimenopause?
Maybe it was after waking up at 3:00 a.m. for the third night in a row.
Or after forgetting why you walked into a room...again.
Or when your favorite jeans suddenly fit a little differently.
Or when you found yourself crying over a commercial one minute and laughing at yourself the next. 😂
Perimenopause has a funny way of making us question everything.
"Is this normal?"
"Am I falling apart?"
"Will I ever feel like myself again?"
"Is it all downhill from here?"
Or maybe you've found yourself thinking, "I just want to feel like me again."
If you've ever had those thoughts, you're definitely not alone.
We spend a lot of time talking about hormones, nutrition, sleep, exercise, and stress management during perimenopause—and for good reason. Those things all matter.
But there's another piece of the puzzle that doesn't get talked about nearly enough.
Your mindset.
Not because mindset magically makes symptoms disappear.
But because mindset influences how we experience challenges, how we respond to them, and whether we believe positive change is even possible.
💛 What mindset are you bringing into this season of life?
Let's talk about it.

🧠 What Is Mindset?

Simply put, your mindset is the collection of beliefs, attitudes, and thoughts that shape how you view yourself and the world around you.
Think of it as the lens 👓 through which you experience life.
Two people can go through very similar situations and have completely different experiences—not because their circumstances are different, but because of the way they interpret them.
That doesn't mean mindset changes reality.
It changes how we respond to reality.
And that's incredibly powerful.

🌿 Where Did Your Mindset About Menopause Come From?

Here's a question I don't think we ask often enough.
💛 What do you believe about perimenopause and menopause?
More importantly...
💛 Where did those beliefs come from?
Maybe it was...
👩 Your mom.
👵 Your grandmother.
👭 Friends who shared horror stories.
📱 Social media.
📺 Television.
📖 Books, magazines, or articles.
Or maybe no one talked about it at all.
The stories we hear often become the stories we expect.
And those expectations matter.
Maybe you've only ever heard menopause described as:
"The beginning of getting old."
"The end of feeling like yourself."
"A miserable phase you just have to survive."
If those are the messages we've heard for years, it's no wonder many women approach this season with fear or dread.
But what if there was another way to think about it?

💛 Your Mindset Can Shape Your Experience

Research suggests that women's expectations about menopause can influence how they experience the transition. Women who expect menopause to be overwhelmingly negative often report a more difficult overall experience, while women who approach it with a more balanced or positive outlook tend to report a better quality of life during this stage.
Studies have also found that qualities like resilience, optimism, and feeling a sense of control are associated with better emotional wellbeing during menopause.
Now, let's be clear...
This does not mean your symptoms are "all in your head."
✅ Hormonal changes are real.
✅ Sleep disruptions are real.
✅ Hot flashes are real.
✅ Brain fog is real.
✅ Mood changes are real.
Your mindset doesn't erase those challenges.
But it can influence how you respond to them.
Do you believe there's nothing you can do?
Or do you believe there are ways you can learn to better support your body?
That's a very different starting point.

🤔 Is Your Mindset Helping You… or Holding You Back?

Let's do a quick check-in.
When you think about perimenopause, which of these thoughts sounds more familiar?

🚧 A Fixed Mindset

"I guess this is just how life is now."
"Nothing I do is going to make a difference."
"My body is failing me."
"I'm just getting old."
"I'll never feel like myself again."
A fixed mindset assumes that things can't change.
That you're stuck.
That this is simply your new normal.

🌱 A Growth Mindset

"My body is changing, so I may need a different approach."
"I haven't figured this out...yet."
"I'm still learning what works for my body."
"I can ask questions."
"I can advocate for myself."
"There are small changes that may help."
Notice something?
A growth mindset isn't pretending everything is wonderful.
It isn't toxic positivity.
It simply leaves room for possibility.
And sometimes, possibility is exactly what we need.

💛 What If Your Body Isn't Failing?

One of my favorite reminders is this:
💛 Your body is communicating, not failing.
Think about that for a moment.
Instead of asking,
"Why is my body doing this to me?"
What if you asked,
"What might my body be trying to tell me?"
Maybe you're exhausted because you've been burning the candle at both ends.
Maybe your sleep needs more attention.
Maybe your stress has been building for months.
Maybe your nutrition needs a little support.
Maybe your hormones are changing and your body is asking for a different routine than it needed ten years ago.
Our bodies are constantly communicating.
The question is...
💛 Are we listening?

🌿 Five Ways to Build a More Empowering Mindset

The good news?
Mindset isn't something you're born with.
It's something you can develop.
Here are a few ways to begin.

💛 1. Pay Attention to Your Self-Talk

Would you say to your best friend the same things you say to yourself?
If not...
It may be time to rewrite the script.

🌱 2. Stay Curious

Instead of assuming,
"Nothing works."
Try asking:
💛 What have I already tried?
💛 What haven't I explored yet?
💛 What is my body communicating?
💛 What works for my body?
Curiosity often leads to better answers than assumptions.

🤝 3. Stop Comparing Your Journey

Your sister's experience isn't your experience.
Neither is your friend's.
Or your coworker's.
Or the woman on Instagram.
Perimenopause is incredibly individual.
The goal isn't to have someone else's journey.
The goal is to understand your own.

🎯 4. Focus on What You Can Influence

You can't control every hormonal fluctuation.
But you can support your body through:
🥗 Nourishing food
🚶‍♀️ Movement
💧 Hydration
😴 Sleep
🧘 Stress management
❤️ Meaningful relationships
🙋 Asking for help when you need it
Small shifts really do add up.

✨ 5. Add One Little Word

If you've been around here for a while, you probably knew this one was coming. 😊
Yet.
"I haven't figured this out...yet."
"I don't feel like myself...yet."
"I haven't found the right routine...yet."
That one little word reminds us that our story isn't finished.
It leaves room for hope.

💛 Your Next Step

This week, I want you to pay attention to the story you're telling yourself about perimenopause.
Ask yourself:
💛 Where did this belief come from?
💛 Is it helping me?
💛 Is it completely true?
💛 What might a more empowering thought sound like?
You don't have to ignore the hard parts of this season.
You don't have to pretend everything is easy.
But you also don't have to believe that this transition is only something to survive.
Perimenopause is certainly a season of change.
But it can also be a season of learning.
🌿 Of growth.
🌿 Of becoming more in tune with your body than you've ever been before.
And maybe...
Just maybe...
It's an opportunity to begin writing a different story.
💛 One where your body isn't your enemy.
💛 One where you become your own best advocate.
💛 One where you stop asking,
"What's wrong with me?"
And start asking,
"What works for my body?"
Because that's a question worth exploring.

Meet Coach Jaime

Let me introduce myself!
My name is Jaime. I am a Christian wife and mom to 2 humans and 2 furry children. After being a middle school teacher for 17 years, I switched directions to go into the field of health and wellness. I am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, I also have certifications in aromatherapy and menopause coaching. Beyond my passion for health and wellness, you can catch me walking, baking, scrapbooking or sewing.

In the midst of my teaching career, I started to experience a lot of health concerns. My hormones were tanking and I felt terrible. I jumped from doctor to doctor with each one prescribing a new medication that didn't seem to help. I had a full hysterectomy at the age of 39 which threw me into menopause. With little help or guidance from doctors, I started doing my own research which lead to me becoming a health coach. (I guess "rabbit holes" can have benefits!!) I am proud to say that I am stronger and healthier than I have ever been!
My health journey hasn't been easy, but it has been a learning experience that I am grateful for!

I don't want women to have to go through their perimenopause/menopause journey alone and confused, like I did. I don't want women to feel like they have no options. I don't want women to learn the hard way the things that really make a difference for their health. I want women to have the knowledge, support, tools and confidence to take control of their health.

If you are in perimenopause or post menopausal, I want to support, encourage, and empower you during this time. This is not a time for suffering, rather it is a time for powerful change!!
